HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR OWN
STAINED GLASS PATTERN

Book Publishing
If you are inspired to make several patterns around a specific theme, or in a recognizable style, you may wish to publish your patterns in print or book format. Some publishers do not actually produce glass projects from the patterns, rather, they digitally produce the illusion of a completed project from the patterns. Jillian Sawyer's beautiful pattern book Frog Song is one such example. However, in the case of most pattern books for panel lampshades, and many pattern books, a stained glass example is actually constructed and photographed. As you build the projects, make notes of the glass catalog numbers and amounts used, as well as hardware or any other relevent detail. Prepare a portfolio of photographs of the projects you intend to publish, and send to prospective publishers, along with a cover letter.

Alternately, you might wish to publish and distribute the book yourself. Many excellent books have been published this way.

Magazine Publishing
If you have an individual pattern you feel is really special, you should consider getting in touch with Glass Patterns Quarterly. If your project is accepted, take meticulous construction notes and abundant step-by-step photographs, even though not all pictures will be used, it is difficult to determine, as you make and photograph the project, which images will turn out to be the most instructional.

Web Publishing
Web publishing is an easy way to disseminate your patterns. For individual patterns, or if you have only a few, you might consider selling them on ART:ERY Stained Glass Patterns. A page is created for you that features your pattern. Interested buyers click on a PayPal button, and you will receive instant notification that a pattern has been sold. Upon receipt of this notification, simply email the digital pattern file to your client.

You may also wish to create your own pattern website along similar principles. Should you decide to use this route, don't forget to submit your site to the Stained Glass Pattern Directory where a free link will bring you targetted traffic.
