PORTRAIT
WILLIAM SHATNER AS CAPTAIN KIRK

Begin by creating a new layer above the portrait you wish to render

Draw the lead lines in the top layer with a contrasting color. Begin to outline the most salient features, such as eyes, eyebrows, lips and nose, as shown.

Now, you need to create lead lines that will join the most important facial features in the portrait, to the outside edge of the face. I like to use the line tool, rather than the pencil or paintbrush tool, because the results are less "shaky."
  • Add a line from the eyes to the face, outward.
  • Follow the natural lines from the nostrils to the edge of the lips.
  • Follow the natural line just underneath the cheek, from the nostril/lip line to the edge of the face.
  • Break up the chin piece, following the natural curvature of the chin, vertically.
  • Break up the forehead piece with vertical lines (or horizontal if your subject has horizontal wrinkles). A line following the temple, of the edge of the eyebrow to the hairline works well.

Make the layer with the photographic image "invisible" in order to print only the top layer that contains the tracing.

Add a frame using the straight line tool, crop, and print.
